Mr. Michael Waller

Managing Director

Michael is the Managing Director of Sofala Capital where he has driven the investment strategy for the company and the formation and development of both Zambian Home Loans and IBUILD Home Loans. Prior to founding Sofala Capital, Michael was a Director of Standard Bank Plc where he headed the origination and structuring for the African Markets business and executed transactions in most of the bank’s 16 African-presence countries. Michael is a Chartered Accountant and CFA Charter holder.

Mr. St. John Bungey


St.John is CEO of Sanlam Africa Investments, an asset management business focusing on African Frontier Markets, in the form of public equity, credit and real estate. This follows 2 years as CIO of Blue Ink and later Sanlam's combined Multi-management businesses. St.John's career in financial services spans 25 years, 12 of which have been gained in the hedge fund industry. St.John moved over from Praesidium Capital where he was partner and portfolio manager from 2006 to 2012.

Mr. Gregory Bergh


Greg joined Praesidium Capital Management in September 2005. In his career of 16 years in financial markets, Greg has worked at Investec Bank, Edge Capital and more recently at Sanlam Investments. In addition to his fund management responsibilities at Praesidium, Greg is also the fund manager of the Sanlam Pi Long/Short Equity Fund. Outside of finance, Greg spent a sabbatical year in 2013 as the Chief of Staff to the Leader of the Opposition in the Parliament of South Africa. He holds a Masters degree in Finance from the University of Cape Town and has been a CFA charterholder since 2003

Mr. Mark Napier


Mark is the Director (CEO) of FSD Africa. Mark's early career (1989-2003) was in investment banking in the City of London (Close Brothers) where he advised growth companies on M&A and capital raising. However, he has now been involved in financial sector development in Africa for 15 years. From 2004-2009 he was CEO of FinMark Trust, based in Johannesburg. He joined CDC, the UK's development finance institution, as Director of Investment Innovation from 2011-2012 and moved to Nairobi to set FSD Africa up in December 2012. Mark has an MA in Modern Languages from Cambridge University.

Mr. James Mason


James is an Executive Director of Rational Expectations (``RE``), an investment company with significant stakes in financial services assets including Capitec Bank, Unity Finance, Propell Finance and Sofala Capital. Prior to joining RE he was the Managing Director of Macquarie Securities South Africa. Prior to Macquarie, James held deal-making roles in corporate and structured finance at listed and boutique financial services companies. James is a Chartered Accountant with an honours degree in taxation.

Mr. Martin West


Martin has 19 years financial services experience, with a focus on operations, systems and credit risk. He has been responsible for the development and management of the lending systems, processes and risk management oversight. Prior to joining Sofala, Martin managed credit risk for Standard Bank in Africa and worked at Investec Specialist Bank. Martin holds a Masters in Finance and an Honours degree in Information Systems, both from the University of Cape Town.

Mrs. Nfwama C Mfula


Nfwama has over 13 years experience in the Financial Services Industry, holds a Master of Business Administration in International Business from Greenwich University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from The Copperbelt University. She is well vested various fields covering Finance, Risk, Audit and Business Development. She has been with ZHL from its inception and has served in Senior Management roles including Head of Business Development, Chief Commercial Officer and Chief Risk Officer. Prior to joining ZHL she worked for Barclays Bank, Deloitte and Bayport Financial Services.
